Warning: This article contains SPOILERS for Syfy’s Reginald the Vampire.Just days after its season 2 finale aired on July 10, Syfy has canceled its horror-comedy Reginald the Vampire (via TVLine). Led by Jacob Batalon, who is known for his role as Ned Leeds in the Marvel Cinematic Universe, the show charmed audiences with its unconventional take on the vampire trope. Batalon starred as the titular character, a man-turned-vampire who doesn’t fit into the stereotypical expectations of what a vampire looks like – he’s not chiseled or ‘classically handsome.’
The show’s now final episode, titled Just Like Heaven, aired on July 10 and ended on a cliffhanger. Despite forgiving Uriel (Max Montessi) for his murderous actions, Reginald finds himself trapped in a heavenly loop with Sarah (Em Haine), while a ghostly Mike (Ryan Jinn) grants Todd (Aren Buchholz) a fleeting moment of closure. While unlikely, some fans on social media are hoping Reginald the Vampirecan follow in SurrealEstate‘s path. After cancelation in October 2021, Syfy surprisingly reversed the show’s course in May 2022, and the second season premiered later that fall on October 4, 2023 (a third season has since been confirmed).
Reginald the Vampire
The series is set in a world populated by beautiful, fit and vain vampires. Reginald Baskin (Batalon) tumbles headlong into it as an unlikely hero who will have to navigate every kind of obstacle – the girl he loves but can’t be with, a bully manager at work and the vampire chieftain who wants him dead. Fortunately, Reginald discovers he has a few unrecognized powers of his own. A new show with a lot of heart and just enough blood, Reginald the Vampire proves the undead life is just as complicated as life itself.

Alongside Batalon, Reginald the Vampire‘s also starred Mandela Van Peebles (Wu-Tang: An American Saga), Haine (Chilling Adventures of Sabrina), Savannah Basley (SurrealEstate), Buchholz (Summer of ’84), Christin Park (Charmed), Georgia Waters (Siren), Sean Yves Lessard (Midnight Whispers) and Montesi (The 100). Based on Johnny B. Truant’s Fat Vampire book series and written and created by Harley Peyton (Twin Peaks), Reginald the Vampire premiered in October 2022; its second season premiered this May, due to delays from the Hollywood strikes.
What Else Has Been Renewed or Canceled on Syfy?
Last month, Syfy revealed that Resident Alien would move to the USA Network for its forthcoming fourth season, while another of the network’s scripted series’ fate remains in limbo: Don Mancini’s Chucky.Chucky has earned consistent critical praise, even securing a perfect score on Rotten Tomatoes for its third season. While Chucky‘s future is still in the air, Mancini revealed during a recent episode with Syfy Wire that he has an exciting idea for the series should a fourth season happen:
“You know, that’s one of the nice things about having worked on a franchise for going on 40 years. I spend a lot of time thinking about it. So, I have a lot of as yet unrealized ideas and situations and new characters and relationships. So, you know, I don’t want to say too much… I have an idea for Season 4 if we get it — fingers crossed — that I’m really excited about. I think it would represent yet another sort of left turn as we always try to make it. This is quite different. And that’s, I think, one of the ways that we keep it fresh.”
Reginald the Vampire, meanwhile, was produced by Great Pacific Media, Modern Story Company, December Films and Cineflix Studios. Jeremiah Chechik, Todd Berger, Lindsay Macadam, Brett Burlock, and Peter Emerson served as executive producers alongside Peyton. Batalon served as a co-executive producer. No doubt fans of the horror comedy series will be hugely disappointed and sharpening their stakes upon learning there will be no more from Jacob Batalon’s prince of darkness.
