Warning! Contains SPOILERS for Cobra Kai Season 6, Episode 1, “Peacetime in the Valley.”

Netflix has dropped the opening eight minutes of Cobra Kai Season 6 — Part 1 online ahead of this Thursday’s premiere, and “that is the sweet, sweet sound of no more karate wars.” Daniel LaRusso (Ralph Macchio) shares his thoughts with wife Amanda (Courtney Henggeler) as It’s now a time of peace after the arrest of Terry Silver (Thomas Ian Griffith). Everyone seems to be thriving, and Macchio shares what fans can expect as The Karate Kid spin-off’s swan song gets underway. The actor says (per Tudum):

It is peacetime in the valley. Everybody’s feeling like a chapter is closed, and we can look forward to working together to create the best Sekai Taikai experience for our students.

The footage (link below) begins with Johnny (William Zabka) and Carmen (Vanessa Rubio) proudly watching as Miguel (Xolo Maridueña) and Robby (Tanner Buchanan) head out of the house for school. With the threat of Terry Silver’s twisted Cobra Kai dojo being a thing of the past, Johnny’s family life can also thrive. Zabka said in the same interview:

“The genie’s back in the bottle.
Silver’s in jail.
Everybody’s eyes are open to the deception that happened, and the Big Bad is out of the way.
The opening of Season 6 is a result of that.
It’s the day after the storm, and the sun is out and everybody’s back on track.
School’s open and life’s moving forward.”

Naturally, things aren’t all sunshine and rainbows. While both Daniel and Johnny are separately reveling in their well-earned victory over Silver, the two rivals-turned-friends aren’t initially on the same page where the upcoming world karate tournament known as the Sekai Taikai is concerned.

Daniel sees it as a way to spread the wisdom of Miyagi-Do around the globe, while Johnny is looking to expand Eagle Fang. But the peace won’t last forever. Although he’s not featured in the footage, Kreese (Martin Kove) is out there preparing to take his revenge.

John Kreese ‘Is Hell-Bent on Destroying and Humiliating’ Johnny & Daniel

While Mike Barnes will join Miyagi-Do in Cobra Kai Season 6, Sean Kanan’s character isn’t featured in the special eight-minute sneak peek, but neither is John Kreese (Kove). While the final moment of the footage ends without knowing what sensei Daniel (Macchio), Johnny (Zabka) and Chozen Toguchi’s (Yuji Okumoto) dojo will be called, Kreese is out there waiting to take his revenge. Co-showrunner Jon Hurwitz teased what fans can expect when Kreese returns during an interview with Entertainment Weekly:

“The last time Kreese saw Johnny and Daniel they left him to rot in prison and said some not-kind things on their way out.
So, this is not a John Kreese who’s happy with Johnny and Daniel,
and he is hell-bent on destroying and humiliating them.
Him returning to Master Kim’s dojo where he learned,
he’s going to be put to the test to see how much he truly embraces ‘no mercy’
and how much he is ready to embrace the teachings that Master Kim gave him all those years ago.”

The Future of Cobra Kai Could Lie in Historical Spin-Offs: ‘We Never Stop Talking About This Franchise’

Cobra Kai co-showrunner Josh Heald reveals “there’s a lot that we’re thinking about” in terms of spin-offs, including possible prequels.

Hurwitz continued:

“Kreese has always been pretty hardcore, but he’s always had a little bit of a soft spot for Johnny.
This time around, the soft spot is gone.
So, Kreese is potentially more dangerous than ever.
Partnering with Kim Da-eun, who has been eager to please her grandfather and continue his traditions, [she and Kreese] have a long history.
It’ll be great to see them working together — great for us as viewers, but not necessarily great for Johnny and Daniel.”

With Kreese waiting in the wings, Daniel and the others are going to need all the help they can get. And with Mike Barnes looking to “make things right,” Daniel, Johnny and Chozen will soon have one more ally to help prepare the students for the fight of their lives in the worldwide karate tournament.
