Ryan Rynolds Says Deadpool & Wolverine 'Hiding a Lot' of Familiar Marvel Faces

Summary

  • Deadpool & Wolverine
brings back fan-favorite characters like Wolverine, Lady Deathstrike, and Sabretooth for an epic adventure.
  • Ryan Reynolds promises an “impossible amount of surprises” in the film, with many more returning characters to be revealed.
  • The film is the first R-rated MCU movie and highly anticipated, with a steady stream of leaks teasing exciting plot details.

Deadpool & Wolverine has already revealed more surprise cameos and story details than most MCU movies deliver in total, but it seems that has only started to scrape the surface. The movie will arrive in theaters in two short weeks, and it stands as the most hotly-anticipated project of the Marvel Cinematic Universe in recent memory. A big part of retaining that hot anticipation comes down to the relentless marketing from Ryan Reynolds…and the return of Hugh Jackman’s Wolverine.

As revealed in a steady stream of leaks, though, Jackman’s Logan isn’t the only character from Marvel cinema’s past to be coming back. Audiences have seen snippets of footage featuring Kelly Hu’s Lady Deathstrike from X2, and Jason Flemyng’s Azazel from X-Men: First Class, and the very prominent featuring of Tyler Mane’s Sabretooth in the latest trailer. But, not even including the hinted-at return of Jennifer Garner’s Elektra from 2003’s Daredevil, Deadpool franchise star Ryan Reynolds revealed at a Berlin-set Deadpool & Wolverine fan event that the film has many, many more surprises in store for the fans.

The honest truth is we’re hiding a lot, which is why we’re showing this amount of footage.

Deadpool & Wolverine

Those at the sneak peek only saw about 35 minutes of footage, and, from what the attendees have said, the scenes shown in the marketing materials are primarily from the within this segment of the film. Reynolds teased what’s in the remainder:

There’s kind of an impossible amount of surprises that, in a couple of weeks, we’re so excited to unleash.

What Returning Characters Have Been Revealed?

Along with Wolverine, Lady Deathstrike, and Azazel, the marketing materials have re-introduced a few other fan-favorite familiar faces. These include Aaron Stanford’s Pyro from X2 and X-Men: The Last Stand and Tyler Mane’s Sabretooth, who was revealed in a recent brief clip. Deadpool & Wolverine marks the first on-screen appearance of Mane’s take on the character since the original X-Men all the way back in 2000.

Also from that original X-Men outing, Ray Park’s Toad is also coming back. This time, hopefully, not being struck by lighting or an awful one-liner. Speaking of awful one-liners, Vinnie Jones’ Juggernaut (a character voiced by Reynolds himself in Deadpool 2) has reportedly been given the briefest glimpse in a recent trailer, which would be his second appearance after 2006’s X-Men: The Last Stand. That movie and Juggernaut’s appearance may have been poorly received, but there’s little doubt that the return of the character would just be another feather in Deadpool & Wolverine‘s well-plumed cap.
