Gen V Season 2 Officially Answers The Biggest Marie Question After Cliffhanger Ending

Gen V Season 2 Officially Answers The Biggest Marie Question After Cliffhanger Ending

Gen V ended Season 1 on a massive cliffhanger: after being lasered by Homelander, Marie Moreau (Jaz Sinclair) woke up inside some sort of containment facility alongside her friends. To her horror, she discovered that they were being blamed for the massacre at Godolkin University while the true culprits were being celebrated as heroes. Fans have wondered how Marie will get out of this jam ever since, and now, thanks to a Comic-Con exclusive trailer, they have their answer.

In the trailer (which was reported on by ScreenRant), Gen V‘s protagonists can be seen being escorted back to Godolkin University by Cate Dunlap (Maddie Phillips). The trailer does not reveal why the characters are let go from the prison, but it does portray Cate as being remorseful for her actions in Season 1, when she instigated a campus-wide riot and killed several people. Meanwhile, Cate’s accomplice, Sam (Asa Germann), is also seen in the trailer; still under Cate’s influence, Sam is still unemotional and brutal.

The trailer only features Jordan (London Thor/Derek Luh), Emma (Lizzie Broadway), and Marie being freed. Due to Chance Perdomo’s tragic passing back in March, the character of Andre will not appear in the series and will not be recast. The character will also reportedly pass away in-universe; as Gen V executive producer Eric Kripke put it, the show could not possibly replace Perdomo, and instead opted to alter season 2’s storyline to address his absence.

How Gen V Season 2 Might Play Out

The path forward for Gen V is less clear than that of The Boys. Whereas the flagship show has a clear route to its finale, the cast of Gen V are only college students, and the main purpose of Season 1 (the creation and introduction of the Supe-killing virus that has made its way into The Boys) has been resolved. Of course, they now find themselves in the midst of a radically changed country, now that Homelander’s been left in charge of America, and this will likely form a big part of Season 2’s story.

Given Cate and Sam’s cameos in Season 4 of The Boys, where it was revealed that Cate now works directly under Homelander, it’s possible that she’s been given a new, important role in his administration. While she could have an ulterior motive for releasing the others, Cate’s sinister actions in The Boys might paint a darker picture for her future.

The Boys showrunner explains how the Gen V cast members fit into the wider universe.

With Homelander building a Supe army, it’s possible that Cate may be trying to recruit Marie, Jordan, and Emma. The three of them have formidable powers, and now that — spoilers for The Boys season 4 finale — Victoria Neuman is dead, Marie is the only known person with the ability to control blood. The three of these heroes would make excellent additions to Homelander’s army, provided Cate could convince them to join. Given her history with the characters, however, it’s unlikely that Cate would be able to convince them to join so easily. For more answers, it looks like fans are going to have to wait for Gen V Season 2 to arrive in early 2025.
