Tangled star Zachary Levi Says Timothee Chalamet Should Play Flynn Rider in Live-Action Remake

In a year brimming with news about Disney sequels and live-action remakes, it seems only fitting that Zachary Levi – the actor who became a household name after voicing the charming rogue, Flynn Rider, in the 2010 animated classic Tangled – has chimed in on the possibility of a live-action adaptation. Levi, who delivered an endearing performance as Flynn, also revealed who he thinks would be the ideal candidate to step into his iconic character’s shoes.

During the premiere of his new film, Harold and the Purple Crayon, Levi spoke to Entertainment Tonight and mused about the role of Flynn Rider. The actor, who has become synonymous with Flynn’s charm and acknowledged the fact that he might be a tad too mature to reprise the role and playfully suggested that Timothée Chalamet would be an excellent choice.

“I mean, he’s already getting every other job but probably Timothee Chalamet? Unfortunately I feel like I’m a little old — and that I don’t know all of the younger actors that could be that guy.”

Levi’s excitement did not stop there. He even floated the idea of a cameo and envisioned himself and Mandy Moore (who voiced Rapunzel) dropping in as Rapunzel’s parents.

“I think it would be fun if Mandy and I got to be Rapunzel’s parents. I think that would be a really fun little cameo for us to pop in to.”

A Live-Action Tangled Would Makes Us All Nostalgic

Disney has been revisiting its beloved classics and giving them new life through sequels, live-action adaptations, and spin-offs. It has had enormous success with live-action remakes of movies like Cinderella, Beauty and the Beast, and The Lion King, and as audiences, we have embraced the continuations.

As for Tangled, the movie has a devoted fan base that has longed for a sequel for over a decade now. Even Levi himself wished a Tangled sequel into existence and was “bummed” that it never happened.

“I’m so proud of that movie I’m so grateful that I got to be a part of it. I always dreamed about being in a Disney animated musical and then I got to be in one! And not just any one, like, I think it’s one of the best ones that there is.

I was bummed that we never got a sequel to it, but we did get to do a really fun animated series that was on Disney Channel

for three years. Now that there’s talks of doing this live-action — I think it’s awesome, and I look forward to, you know, seeing how well that comes together.”

Depending on the time the movie was released, Disney has classified the movies into a specific era. Here’s an explanation of each.

While a sequel seems uncertain, Levi has successfully drawn our attention towards the prospect of a live-action remake with Timothée Chalamet as the suave Flynn Rider. The actor has already garnered critical acclaim for his performances in movies like Call Me By Your Name, Little Women, and Dune. He recently also played Willy Wonka in Paul King’s Wonka, a character that was charming, intelligent, resourceful, and fun. With his good looks and impressive range, Chalamet would definitely make the role his own. While any official announcements are yet to be made, one thing is certain, if Zachary Levi’s endorsement is taken upon seriously and Timothée Chalamet is cast as Flynn Rider, Tangled will end up finding a whole new generation of fans.
