Scary Movie’s Anna Faris Will Return to the Franchise If Regina Hall Also Returns

Scary Movie's Anna Faris Will Return to the Franchise If Regina Hall Also Returns

Summary

  • Anna Faris is open to returning to the Scary Movie franchise only if Regina Hall, who played Brenda, also makes a comeback.
  • Faris considers her experience in the franchise as “boot camp” for her career, teaching her comedic timing and loyalty.
  • Speculation surrounds Faris and Hall not appearing in Scary Movie 5, with age possibly being a factor according to previous hints by Faris.

Scary Movie star Anna Faris has revealed that she’s open to returning to the franchise. The star, who last appeared in the franchise in 2006’s Scary Movie 4, revealed that she has just one condition for returning.

While speaking with People, Faris proclaimed that she would only reprise her role if Regina Hall, who portrayed Brenda in the films, were also to return. “I would love to work with Regina again. I just love her so much. We would make each other giggle all day long. Regina Hall would be my answer. And money. But mostly all Regina!”

Faris also spoke at length about her devotion to the franchise, which she called “boot camp” for her career. Faris explained that the franchise taught her a lot about comedic timing, and explained that she feels a loyalty towards it. Faris, who went on to star in many more comedy films, joked that the films taught her “how to get hit in the head”:

“I love that franchise. It was like my bootcamp, my beginnings. If there is a high school comparison for my growth experience, those four movies played an important role in my life in terms of teaching me how to use props, teaching me how to fall, how to get hit in the head — how to hold Chiclets in my mouth and then spit them out with blood at a convenient time for the camera.”

Why Didn’t Anna Faris Return for Scary Movie 5?

Scary Movie 5, which released in 2013, did not focus on Faris’ character, instead bringing in Ashley Tisdale as ‘Jody’. It isn’t officially known why Faris didn’t return for Scary Movie 5, but back in 2019, Faris seemed to hint that her age was the deciding factor for the studio. Faris has joked that she was “too old” for the role, with the studio preferring to revamp the franchise with someone younger.

It is similarly not known why Hall did not appear in the movie either, but fans have speculated that she was absent for reasons similar to Faris. While Hollywood still isn’t a perfect place, the cinematic landscape is quite different these days, which means it’s possible that studio executives won’t have as many hangups about age.

Scary Movie’s Anna Faris has opened up about how Scream and I Know What You Did Last Summer stars reacted to being mimicked in the comedy.

In the meantime, Faris isn’t the only actress angling for a role in Scary Movie 6. The film is surprisingly sought-after: Scream star Melissa Barrera is almost at the top of that list. Following her firing from Scream 6, Barrera has joked that she would want to portray a character in the Scary Movie franchise, a touch of meta-humor (Scream served as the inspiration for the original Scary Movie, which cribbed its title from early Scream drafts). If Barrera, Hall, and Faris are all brought on board, Scary Movie 6 might just turn out to be a star-studded hit.
